MoreSaturday 30th. Assembles at 1.00 p.m. at the Parc-y-Fro Green and proceeds around the village to the Recreation field by 2.00 p.m. when the Carnival officially commences.
MoreThe Creigiau Carnival is organised by the Creigiau Carnival Committee, a small group of people from the village whose aim is to bring the community together on Carnival day and other events during Carnival Week. Money raised is invested back into village facilities and local groups and sports clubs. The Committee meet regularly from January to June, and work in their own time to organise the Carnival.
The Carnival began in the early 1980’s as an afternoon of races, fancy dress competitions and refreshments. Gradually, the event grew into the Carnival that we know today.
The Carnival now begins with a procession of floats through the village, arriving at the Recreation Field for the official opening declaration. At the Recreation Field, there are various stalls, beer tent and barbecue, tea and other refreshments, strawberries and Pimms, bouncy castle, children fun rides, a variety of entertainment and attractions, 5 a-side football, cricket, dog show, archery, coconut shy and egg throwing. Recent additional attractions have included an Owl Show, Bristol “Zoo to You”, mini train set and vintage fire engine. Sali Mali and Sam Tan have also attended regularly in recent years!
As well as being a fun packed day, the Carnival helps to raise important funds, which go back into village life. One of the sources of income is the Carnival programme, which also acts as the entry ticket onto the Recreation Field. In the programme, is an ever-increasing number of local trades and services, and can be kept as a handy guide for the whole year. We are grateful for the support of the local companies who advertise in the programme.
In 2011, with its theme of 'Britain Through The Ages', we saw some great floats and fancy dress, more stalls than ever before, and the usual array of entertainment and activities on the field. Despite mainly damp and drizzly weather, local people turned out in force to support the event and thanks to your support, we raised some £5000 in total, to be used by CRAMC and Creigiau 23 locally for sports and recreation facilities, and to help our clubs, associations and other village groups.
